You sit behind the wheel on the New Jersey Turnpike at night. Tail lights blur through the windshield, and the wipers sweep the water away with a soft thump.
What you hear
Rain on the roof and the windshield, with the engine idling and the wipers thumping. Every few seconds the wipers sweep across the windshield and clear the glass. Raise the Storm slider for lightning, then listen for the thunder: the further the strike, the longer the wait and the deeper the rumble. Nothing here is a recording on repeat. Every drop is made live in your browser, so the sound never loops.
Good for
Sleep, and anyone who has dozed off as a passenger on a rainy drive.
How to use it
- Press Begin listening. Headphones make the biggest difference.
- Move the Rain slider from a light drizzle to a downpour, and Storm for thunder.
- Drag across the glass to wipe the fog. Hold still to breathe on it, then write in it.
- Set Fade out to 15, 30 or 60 minutes if you want to fall asleep to it.
